The marathon training is finally getting up into the double digits. Our long run this weekend was 10.5, which was a lot rougher than I remembered it being when we trained for the 1/2 marathon. Nothing really started hurting until about 7.5 miles in, but at that point there were still three miles to go. I walked the last mile or so, because my left leg was pretty cramped up. No matter how much stretching I’ve done in the past 24 hours, I’ve still got a nagging ache that won’t go away.
I guess the true test will be tomorrow morning – I need to get up and do about 5 or 6 miles, but the weatherman is calling for rain and between that and my cramping leg, it’s going to be a rough run. I think this is where all that “mind over matter” stuff is supposed to start coming in. It definitely could be worse – at least it’s not 104 degrees out anymore…
Remember two things: If it ain’t rainin’ it ain’t trainin’. Pain is weakness leaving your body.
Yeah, yeah…. No pain, no gain… heard it all before. That works until about mile 9, then I decide that it’s not worth the gain anymore! 🙂
I need a new mantra…. “ouch… ouch… ouch” isn’t really working!!
