We had some fun testing out Logan’s sense of smell this evening. Apparently, an infant’s sense of smell is very keen even at these early stages. So, in an effort to expose Logan to many different scents, we played in the spice rack.
He seemed to like cinnamon a bit, and vanilla. Surprisingly, he was a big fan of anise (I see lots of pizelles in his future). Peppermint seemed to have a calming effect… he was intrigued by the smell and just wanted to keep inhaling it.
He did not like chili powder (and, in retrospect, I felt kind of bad for even putting that under his nose). Ginger was also a big thumbs down.
Most of the Thanksgiving spices – thyme, sage, etc. – got no reaction whatsoever.
The most surprising reaction, however, was to garlic. He loved it. Garlic powder, garlic salt… didn’t mater which, he was a huge fan. He’d actually open his mouth and stick his tongue out repeatedly to try to lick it. For scientific purposes, we tested this multiple times in between various other spices, and always got the same reaction. Maybe this means I ate too much Italian food while I was pregnant? Regardless, it’s probably a bad thing for his future girlfriends.
We’ll have to play in the pantry tomorrow to see what else we can sniff out!
He won’t have to worry about vampires.
